Play of Life, 10 - 13 February 2009

What is Play of Life?

The Play of Life® is a practical, hands-on methodology designed to rapidly affect positive transformational change in individuals, families, teams and organisations.

The Play of Life allows people to present issues, feelings and goals three-dimensionally; going beyond verbal descriptions and explanations to literally “see” relationships and situations clearly. Play of Life technology combined with Strategic Relationship Management Model® techniques bypass the neo-cortex, where language is located to directly connect with the limbic system; that part of the brain that deals with emotions and memory. Only by linking the limbic system with the neo-cortex is sustainable behavioural change possible. This is the cornerstone of the Play of Life.

The methodology is applied extensively in the fields of psychotherapy, counselling, coaching, family dispute resolution, corporate consultancy, leadership and self-analysis. Very simply, the Play of Life makes communication easier and transformation faster.

Those who have used the Play of Life described it as:

Sibling Abuse, 3 - 6 March 2009

Sibling violence is the most common form of intimate violence. It is pervasive amongst children caught in Domestic Violence.  According to Dr. Vernon Wiehe, professor of social work at the University of Kentucky and author of "Perilous Rivalry: When Siblings Become Abusive", as many as 53 out of every 100 children abuse a brother or sister, higher than the percentage of adults who abuse their children or their spouse. What some kids do to their brother or sister inside the family would be called assault outside the family.  This type of abuse is an important social problem because of the intense suffering and sometimes destructive long-term effects that result from it.  Sibling relationships influence human development because of the extraordinary significance of shared history and the eternal issues of identity. Sibling relationships are often complex, turbulent, and resonant as one of the most important and formative human bonds.  This unique workshop is proactive in educating about important information, intervention strategies and solutions pertaining to Sibling Abuse.

Working with the Anxious Clients, An Existential Therapy Approach, 19 - 20 March 2009

Got Anxious Clients? What’s the meaning of anxiety? What purpose does it serve?

As a philosophical practice, existentialism enables people to elaborate and discover personal meaning such as anxiety within the limitations and paradoxes of human existence. By exploring personal worldviews, emotions, anxieties, values and beliefs, we gain valuable insight into the choices we make.

Existentialism acknowledges and works with the complexities of the human inter-relationship and can be of great benefit to anyone who works with people; whether as psychologist, social worker, leader, manager or coach.

Relationships Counselling: Using Creative Arts in Working with Parent-child, Couples, Families, An Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy Approach, 6 - 9 April 09

We are all in some forms of intertwining relationships, be it parent-child, couple or family relationship. Some make us feel loved, safe and happy, some break our hearts, spirits, drain and trap us.  Although all of us have both positive and negative experiences, unfortunately most clients in counselling allow the negativity to impair them and cause them to be dysfunctional in their general being. This workshop will help clients to clarify their situation in order to generate solutions. Although clarity on what different relationships impact or impair our lives may not result in solutions or resolutions, however, such understandings do empower clients to make sensible choices on “what can I do about it” as compared to remain entangled in perplexity.

Creating Lasting Solutions in Counselling, A Solutions Oriented Approach, 13 - 15 May 2009

We want solutions for our troubled client, and we want the solutions to last!

Which is obviously the goal of any counselling, however, finding solutions would be fulfilling only part of the goal.  The ultimate objective would be for the clients to act on it, binding the new found solutions into the client's being, in another word, making solutions last! The solution approach to counselling is recognised as one of the most effective methods of assisting clients in doing just that.

This workshop demonstrate a simple yet effective ways of connecting clients with the experience of their solutions, moving them past the idea, the hope, the wish of a resolution.

Attachment Theory:Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Assessment & Treatment, 2 - 5 June 2009

Attachment theory provides a descriptive and explanatory framework for discussion of affectionate relationships between human beings. When children experience abuse or neglect inflicted by a primary caregiver this will usually disrupt the normal development of secure attachment which could result in life long psychological issues and disturbances. As the number of children growing up in residential settings, single parent families, dysfunction families and adopted families are on the rise, this very specialised skill would be very useful for helping professionals who are working in this area.

Drama Therapy: For Working with Children, Youths and Intellectually Challenged, An Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy Approach, 3 - 6 November 2009

What is Drama Therapy

It is "the systematic and intentional use of drama /theatre processes, products, for physical integration and personal growth."

Why Drama therapy is useful?

Drama therapy evolved from the experience and research of psychotherapists, teachers, and theatre professionals who recognized that sometimes traditional verbal therapies were too rigid to permit clients to confront and work through individual disturbances. The balanced of verbal and non-verbal components of drama therapy with its language of metaphor allow clients to work productively within a therapeutic alliance. This active approach that helps the client tell his or her story to solve a problem, achieve a catharsis, extend the depth and breadth of inner experience, understand the meaning of images, and strengthen the ability to observe personal roles while increasing flexibility between roles.
